Block 8 Academy Focus - Friday
Music, Sound, Rhythm, Culture - Music is interspersed throughout the activities on this day. Children are exposed to various musical concepts and encouraged to join in, learning as they play. Through singing songs, chanting rhymes, producing their own rhythms and songs, playing music games, using xylophones and other instruments, children come to learn the principles of music as well as tuning into and gaining confidence in their own ability to create. The program includes hints of the Kodaly and Orff philosophies, and uses instruments, songs and rhymes from children's folk culture.
Outdoor Playtime - Playground stops at Moody Elementary School, Kyle Park and Rocky Point Park are part of our planned after school program. These playgrounds have great equipment and ample room for the students to run, climb, play tag, soccer or just enjoy the park! Other days will feature walks along the lower trails near Port Moody Arts Centre.
Crafts and Games Time - When not outdoors or involved in planned activites, children have access to craft supplies, puzzles, games, books and more. Instructors will endeavour to keep a mix between leading the students and allowing them to have independent time.
GIDE (Get It Done Early) - Homework Club - 5:15 We know that having to get homework completed in the evenings adds additional stress to families. So we will have an optional 30 minutes of homework help to assist students wanting to tackle their homework during academy time. Students can get help from the tutor, or can just use this time as quiet reading or work time. (GIDE homework club is optional)
Community Projects and Entrepreneurship - For students wanting to work on their projects from the financial literacy or community projects units, instructors will be available to assist. Students not attending on the other days the units are being covered, but wanting to take part, can work with instructors to choose related mini activities to participate in.
