School Age Care
There is an 'Activity Block' each day.

See the weekly schedule to see which activities are planned for a given day of the week

Outdoor Playtime - Playground stops at Moody Elementary School, Chip Kerr Park, Kyle Park and Rocky Point Park are part of our planned after school program.  These playgrounds have great equipment and ample room for the students to run, climb, play tag, soccer or just enjoy the park!  Other days will feature walks along the lower trails near Port Moody Arts Centre.

Science and Outdoor Science Adventures
Rock Art, Scavenger Hunts, Surveys, Bug Hunting, Terrarium Building, Geocaching and more.  Our outdoor science offers a  mix of structured and unstructured activities, allowing children to use their imaginations and learn appreciation for nature and the outdoors.  Students will become familiar with local flora and fauna while they take part in listening and awareness activities.

The Power of the Word We -  This activity is a hands-on learning opportunity working on community projects and learning social responsibility. This year we will likely focus on Noons Creek Fish Hatchery and other charities in and around our community.  Children will experience the feeling of helping, will participate in the steps necessary to take action.  In the process, students will learn about the various needs of children and families right in our area.

Crafts and Games Time - When not outdoors or involved in planned activites, the children have access to craft supplies, puzzles, games, books and more.  Sometimes the craft is an organized activity, where the students made 'products' ( including home-made colouring books, ceramic ornaments, and jewelry) to be sold at the Winter Treasures Exhibition and Sale at Port Moody Arts Centre! Other times, the children choose their own craft supplies for their own creations.

Our Multicultural World - Spotlight on Different Cultures

- Intercultural communications experts highlight interesting differences between our world cultures.  Some topics are teacher driven, others identified by students and then pursued by the class.  Slideshows leave the children asking more questions than you can believe, as they come to understand similarities and differences between cultures.  Speakers from different cultures give the children a chance to ask questions and meet people who have lived in the different cultures.

Entrepreneurship - Brainstorm ideas for products that can be sold at the Port Moody Arts Centre 'Winter Treasures' exhibition - then present these ideas to a 'focus group' composed of the gallery manager as well as other community members.  Learn to evaluate the competition, set prices, and do marketing for the event.  Develop your plan to 'mass produce' your product with the help of local artists.  Then be a part of the opening night, and experience 'selling' first hand.  Learn about cost of goods sold, profit margin and giving to charity.

Financial Awareness -  You are never too young to have fun while learning about the value of money, the power of investing, and the concept of loans and mortgages.  Through adaptations of the game 'The Price is Right', combined with 'Monopoly', and 'Rich Dad Poor Dad's - Rat Race', we help the students learn about these financial concepts and more, while honing their math skills and learning about team work.  Students of different ages take away different concepts while playing the same games.

Music, Sound, Rhythm, Culture -   Music is interspersed throughout the activities on this day.  Children are exposed to various musical concepts and encouraged to join in, learning as they play.  Through singing songs, chanting rhymes, producing their own rhythms and songs, playing music games, using xylophones and other instruments, children come to learn the principles of music as well as tuning into and gaining confidence in their own ability to create. The program includes hints of the Kodaly and Orff philosophies, and uses instruments, songs and rhymes from children's folk culture.
